Monmouth 21-Fleur 23

Following on from last weeks convincing victory against basement side Llanileth the First team squad set out looking for a 2nd win in a row away against Monmouth. The first half was a evenly contested affair as both teams looking for weaknesses in the opposition defence. The half ended 13-10 to the hosts with the Fleur scores coming from a Kris Wheeler try and the other points coming from the boot of Scott turner. Early in the second half Fleur 8 Dale Vokes received a very debatable yellow card from which the hosts capiralised with a try. But Fleur refused to cave in and battled back and as the game entered the final moments and trailing 21-16 a turn over on our own line found it's way to Macca on the wing and he raced 90 metres to score under the posts which Turner converted to put us into a 23-21 lead. But the drama didn't end there and Monmouth were awarded a penalty 40metres out with the last play of the game. Thankfully their kicker pulled it wide and we won the game. This was a great squad performance by all 19 players and a deserved victory. The squad will now be buoyed by 2 consecutive victories as they prepare for the visit of local rivals Blackwood Stars in 2 weeks time
